Members of the American Academy of General Physicians

A professional society, that was founded in 1995, is the American Academy of General Physicians ( AAGP ).

The American Academy of General Physicians was founded with the mission to further the interest of general medicine and general practitioners and to contribute to the field of medicine in the areas of professional development, biomedical ethics, medical and scientific research, medical education, and the betterment of patient care.

Since the founding of the American Academy of General Physicians, approximately 3000 physicians have submitted applications to join the American Academy of General Physicians.

The First Annual Meeting of the Members of the American Academy of General Physicians was held in Atlanta Georgia in 1996. Other cities, in which the Members of the American Academy of General Physicians have held meetings, include Long Beach, Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco and St. Louis.

At each of the Meetings of the Members of the American Academy of General Physicians, the Members of the American Academy of General Physicians accomplish many tasks. At these meetings, the members elect the physicians who will serve as President of the American Academy of General Physicians and as Trustees on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of General Physicians. At these meetings, the members approve the financial report that has been prepared and presented by the General Accountant of the American Academy of General Physicians. At these meetings, the members adopt a budget under which the American Academy of General Physicians will operate during the subsequent year.

Also, at each of the Meetings of the Members of the American Academy of General Physicians, the members adopt opinions pertaining to various aspects involving the practice of medicine.

The Opinions of the General Members of the American Academy of General Physicians provide the foundation for the existence and operations of the American College of General Medicine ( ACGM ). The American College of General Medicine ( ACGM ) is a non-profit educational organization. The United States Internal Revenue Service has recognized the American College of General Medicine as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The General Practice Training Program is a program that has been developed and operated by the American College of General Medcine ( ACGM ). The General Practice Training Program is used as an eductional resource by the American Board of General Practice. The American College of General Medicine is accredited and recognized by the American Academy of General Physiians.

The American Board of General Practice is a non-profit organization which evaluates, examines and certifies physicians, mostly general practitioners. The Membership of the American Academy of General Physicians is divided into classes. Two of these classes are the General Member Class and the Professional Member Class.

The General Member Class of Members of the American Academy of General Physicians is the class of membership in which physicians join when they first join the American Academy of General Physicians. The only requirement for membership in the General Member Class of the American Academy of General Physicians is the attainment and maintenance of either an M.D. or D.O. degree or its equivalent. A state license to practice medicine in the United States is not a requirement to join the General Member Class of the American Academy of General Physicians. However, approximately more than 90 percent of the members of the American Academy of General Physicians maintain a state license to practice medicine in the United States.

The Professional Member Class of Members of the American Academy of General Physicians is the next class upward from the General Member Class. The Professional Member Class of Members of the American Academy of General Physicians is a class for members of the American Academy of General Physicians who desire to serve the American Academy of General Physicians, and its mission, at a substantially higher level than members of the General Member Class. Certain benefits are available to members of the Professional Member Class of the American Academy of General Physicians, which benefits are not available to members of the General Member Class of the American Academy of General Physicians. There are more requirements for membership in the Professional Member Class of the American Academy of General Physicians, which requirements are not required for membeship in the General Member Class (a lower class of membership).
